Senior Football:  For the first time since 2005, our senior footballers are back in the County final.  This was achieved at Cashel on Sunday last when they overcame County champions Moyle Rovers by 1-09 to 1-05 following a fine overall performance .(See Match Report on Tipp Star).
Following our poor shooting in the Mid final this was certainly rectified and with the defence performing heroics, they held our fancied opponents to a late goal in the second period.  We now prepare for the final on November 7th v Aherlow who were narrowly pipped in last year’s decider.  A lot of hard work will go into the preparation for this game and any donations to defray costs would be greatly appreciated.  Congratulations to all concerned.

The Late Sean Mockler:   On Sunday evening 17th October we learned of the sudden passing of that great gael Sean Mockler, Castleiney.  Although unwell in recent times, his sudden departure came as a great shock to all.
Words cannot describe the love Sean had for the Loughmore/Castleiney club, as a player in the fifties and sixties, team trainer, selector, club chairman at different intervals, club delegate to the Mid and County boards.  He was also a gate checker in Mid Tipperary, Mid chairman, County football board chairman and Croke Park steward.  You could continue listing his various involvements with the G.A.A. and he performed all with one hundred per cent dedication.
The outstanding memories of Sean was that he followed every team in the parish from U/10 juveniles to seniors in both codes and he was always very proud when a juvenile victory of note would come the way as he knew the future ahead was promising.
His remains on the Tuesday evening was met in Castleiney village by one of the largest guard of honour seen in a long time, flanked on one side by club members and players and one the other side by Mid and County boards, football board and former work mates from Bord na Mona.
The club flag, carried by his great friends Pat Cullen and Joe Grady fronted the cortege through the village to the Church with huge crowds present.  Various tributes were paid to Sean and he was laid to rest in Templeree Cemetary on Wednesday last.  And we have no doubt that his guidance was with us on Sunday last in Cashel.
To his wife Rose, son Joe, daughters Mairead, Rosari and Tina, brother, sister and extended family we offer our deepest sympathy.  Ar dheis go raibh a hAnam dilis.

Senior Football:  On Sunday next our senior footballers will be involved in the County semi final where we face Moyle Rovers in Cashel at 4.00pm.
Having played pretty well so far this year, despite the lack of preparation due to the hurling exploits, where we had to come through O’Riain cup which put extra games in our path.  However we expect a big performance and a big improvement in our shooting and the return of Micheal Webster to boost our chances and hopefully a place in the County final.

All Stars:  For the second year in a row Noel McGrath has picked up an All Star hurling award when chosen at number 11 on the 2010 team announced on Friday night last.  In a year where he has picked up senior and U/21 All Ireland and a second All Star at just nineteen years of age, it certainly is a tremendous achievement.  Our sincere congratulations to Noel.

R.I.P.:  It was with regret we learned on Sunday evening of the passing of Sean Mockler, Strogue, Castleiney, former club chairman, Mid chairman and County football board chairman.  Sean will be laid to rest this Wednesday in Templeree cemetery.  To his wife Rose and family, brother and sister, on behalf of the senior and juvenile club our deepest sympathy.  Further tribute on next weeks issue.

Table Quiz:  We ask as many as possible to support Kevin Kelly’s table quiz on this Friday night in Skehans Lounge, Libery Square, Thurles.  The table quiz is in aid of Azerbaijan orphanage.

Juvenile Club:  Our congratulations to our U/11 footballers who won the Michael McCullagh tournament on Saturday last.  Playing a series of games they defeated J K Brackens in the final.  The cup was presented to a jubilant captain Eoin Ryan following the victory.  We say well done to all concerned.

Scor na nOg auditions this Friday night 22nd October at 8.00pm in Castleiney hall.  Anyone interested are asked to attend as it will determine our contestants for Mid semi final etc.

Mid Football Final:  On Sunday last at an excellently set Templetuohy venue our senior footballers retained the Ryan cup for a fourth successive year, when in a thrilling encounter they overcame great rivals J K Brackens by 1-11 to 0-11 after extra time.

Having not played the big ball game since 19th July was only evident in our shooting which amounted to the twenty bracket as otherwise it was a determined performance that sends us directly into the County semi final.
An interesting note on our Ryan cup achievements since it was presented to the Mid board by the club on behalf of Bill and Jim Ryan of Bloody Sunday fame in 1963.  Sunday last was our 48th successive year contesting the Mid final, winning 42 and losing just 6, a remarkable sequence by any standard.
The cup was presented by Mid chairman Matty Ryan to a jubilant captain Ciaran McGrath following the game, with wing back Tom King collecting the late Billy Kelly Man of the Match awards.  Congratulations to all.

Training:  Training must now be attended by all our senior and U/21 players in preparation for County senior football semi final and Mid U/21 A hurling semi final.

Don’t forget to support the coffee morning in Loughmore Community Centre on 17th October in aid of Action Breast Cancer from 11-45am to 1-45pm.

Scor na nOg:  Auditions for the above will be held in Castleiney hall on Friday week 22nd October at 8.00pm.  With a lot of various talents at this age group in the parish we look forward to a large number of contestants present.
